Why Vein Treatment?
Unsightly veins can make you feel uncomfortable and self-conscious in certain clothing styles. Sclerotherapy is a minimally invasive treatment that can correct unwanted veins safely and effectively. There are very few side effects after treatment and each session takes only about 15 to 30 minutes.
Vein Treatment FAQ
What is sclerotherapy? Sclerotherapy is used at our St. Louis med spa to treat unwanted spider and varicose veins. The treatment involves injecting a chemical sclerant into the vein, which causes the vein to become irritated and inflamed and eventually fade away. Blood circulation is then rerouted through healthier valves and the treated vein is absorbed by the body.
What types of veins can be treated? Small to medium sized spider veins or varicose veins on the legs and body are most commonly treated with sclerotherapy. For smaller veins or broken capillaries on the face, a photothermal procedure such as IPL is a better option.
Is the procedure painful? Sclerotherapy is well tolerated by most people. Many of our clients compare the prick of the sclerotherapy needle to a mosquito bite.
How many treatments will I need? The amount of sclerotherapy sessions will depend on the size, number, and depth of veins being treated. Some people are satisfied after just 1 treatment, but others benefit more from multiple procedures. Treatments should be spaced about 4 weeks apart to allow for healing.

Your Treatment Experience
Sclerotherapy is performed by a registered nurse for your safety and comfort. The treatment area is first sterilized, and then a special sclerosing agent is injected into the affected veins. Multiple injections are usually needed to collapse the vein.
After your procedure, a bandage or compression stocking will be applied to the treated area. For large veins, this garment should be worn for 1 to 3 days. Some minor itching or burning is common after sclerotherapy, but this quickly passes. Light walking is encouraged after treatment to help with circulation, but strenuous activity may need to be restricted for the first few days.Back to Top
