Couple running near the water.

Ever since we first started offering CoolSculpting®  at our St. Louis medical spa, it’s been one of our most popular nonsurgical body contouring procedures. What’s not to love? It targets those stubborn areas of fat that won’t shrink no matter how much you exercise or diet, and there’s essentially no downtime.

So we thought, If one CoolSculpting machine is popular, adding a second machine will make patients twice as happy. That’s what enables us to now offer DualSculpting. This is truly great news for men and women who have been considering the treatment but have a hard time dedicating the time needed to complete the procedure into their busy schedules.

First, a little background for anyone who may have heard of CoolSculpting, but isn’t sure about how the procedure works. The FDA approved CoolSculpting several years ago as a noninvasive fat reduction treatment for specific areas of the body, including the abdomen, flanks (the “love handles”), inner and outer thighs, and the area directly below the chin. During the procedure, which we described in an earlier blog post, the treatment area is cooled using specially designed applicators. Fat cells begin to break down when cooled — at a higher temperature than other types of cells. The machine controls the temperature so it’s effective without damaging the skin or surrounding tissue.

That’s the good news. But until now, it has taken about an hour to treat one area. In most cases, patients want symmetrical areas treated (for example, both the left and right flanks, the left and right thighs, etc.). Even treating the abdomen is really 2 treatment areas — the upper and lower abdominal areas — which means the procedure took 2 hours from start to finish.

DualSculpting cuts the treatment time in half, and patients get twice the results! That’s pretty cool.

For patients who had trouble squeezing in a treatment during their lunch hour, the addition of a second machine means we can complete the procedure in no more than an hour. And as with CoolSculpting treatments for a single area, DualSculpting procedures don’t require patients to take time off work or postpone their normal daily activities. There may be some soreness, but there is really no downtime needed.
