Procedure Overview

St. Louis Cosmetic Surgery uses a variety of techniques to reduce surgical time, lessen post-operative discomfort, and provide better results. The thin, vibrating cannulas used during liposuction gently massage and loosen the unwanted fat cells, allowing for more targeted fat removal while leaving surrounding tissues unharmed. Because of the small, precise motions, power assisted liposuction is very effective in treating smaller areas of the body that are often difficult to sculpt, such as the arms or thighs.

Your Surgery

Liposuction can usually be performed under general or local anesthesia. Your plastic surgeon will begin by injecting a tumescent solution into the appropriate treatment areas to help dissolve fat. Then, using very precise surgical instruments, he will make small incisions to insert the cannula. The cannula gently vibrates to break apart the fat cells and suctions fat out of the body. The length of your procedure will depend on the area being treated.

Some people who undergo liposuction also choose to have a tummy tuck to help flatten the abdomen, or breast augmentation for additional body enhancements.

Your Recovery

Usually, most people are able to return to work within a few days to 1 week.
